In Memory of
Margaret Atherton
Margaret was an advocate for girls in sports, and Girls on the Run is grateful to have been selected as part of her legacy.

Margaret was very active in coaching & managing her daughter Julie's soccer and softball teams. She was also a scorekeeper for the Bobby Sox softball league and at one point was doing the stats for every player in the league. A graduate of Oregon State, she and Julie went to all the OSU games when they came to the Bay Area.
Margaret was a huge 49ers fan (well, a huge fan of all sports and the Bay Area teams) and a regular at the Giants games, where you could find her keeping score in her scorebook during the games.
She played tennis and volleyball, which she loved, but also there wasn’t much else for girls and young women at the time.
